Heart Opening Yoga
Make room for physical and emotional development with this 60 minute yoga and journalling session that encourages you to open space in your heart for growth in 2025.
Benefits:
* Strengthens entire muscles of the spine, massages abdominals and creates a gentle detoxification of deep internal organs.
* Opens the chest, strengthens muscles in the mid to upper back, opens the hip flexors and strengthens the inner thighs.
Emotional and physical benefits:
* Emotional - Opening the space around the heart physically supports us to be more emotionally receptive, compassionate, giving, loving, and healthier when we move off the mat into our lives.
* Physical - in heart opening postures your chest expands making more space for your lungs on the inhale therefore helping you breathe deeper. A constricted rib cage presses down on the heart and lungs, which constricts blood flow, lymphatic circulation, and breath. It prevents the heart and lungs from functioning optimally. A constricted rib cage occurs when we breathe only into the chest due to unconscious breathing, stress response, and poor posture. This constriction of the heart and lungs triggers the body’s sympathetic nervous system and leaves us in an stress-response state(fight/flight). Stress is a huge factor in disease including heart disease. When we consciously breathe into the rib cage on the front, side and back of the body, we create more space inside the body, and, in turn, more space for the heart and lungs.
Beyond releasing stress, practicing yoga may help lower blood pressure, blood cholesterol and blood glucose levels, as well as reducing RHR (resting heart rate), making it a useful lifestyle intervention.
Journaling and Prompts:
Journaling is a way to process your thoughts and feelings and to understand them more clearly. There are numerous health benefits to journaling including reducing stress, anxiety and increasing self awareness.
Prompts help you to explore new topics or feelings you may not have considered before. This may broaden your perspective and gain insight into yourself.
What to Bring:
* A pencil or pen and a blank piece of paper or a journal.
* An open heart and mind are considered an asset.
