COVID-19 OPERATIONS

Life changed in early 2020 as we prepared for isolation we loaded up on processed foods, alcohol consumption increased by 20% for Canadians, and gyms around the world closed their doors. As many fitness centres closed down for good, Jolt Fitness geared up!

We understand the importance of following strict cleaning and distancing protocols at our facility. It is crucial to maximize health and fitness while preventing the spread of Covid-19. Please keep reading for our action plan.

At Jolt Fitness we can’t help but notice that one of the things that can protect you from the harmful side effects of Covid-19 is good health and fitness levels. Those who are classified as obese, have hypertension, diabetes and or other cardiovascular diseases may be at the highest risk for complications with the virus. There could not be a better time to prioritize your health and fitness.

If you're living with diabetes—especially type 2 diabetes—regular physical activity is one of the most important things you can do to lower your blood sugar. Increased physical activity can work just as effectively as some medications, with fewer side effects.

People who aren't physically active are much more likely to have health problems, like heart attack and stroke. On the other hand, regular physical activity helps to lower blood pressure, control weight and reduce stress.

Poor metabolic health is linked to poor immune function. This creates a higher risk for developing—and having complications from—infections like flu and coronavirus. Studies have also found that people with diabetes and high blood glucose are more susceptible to infection. Studies show that good metabolic health is linked to higher levels of physical activity.

Exercise less than 60 minutes in length enhances the circulation of disease and illness fighting cells (Immunoglobins, Natural Killer cells, T cells, and other immune cells). These cells defend against viruses, pathogens, and help reduce inflammation.

Closing gym’s and shutting down health professionals has cast a shadow on the health and fitness community as media continues to label gyms as a risk rather then a prevention method. Recent data provides some early indication that there may be a low possibility of coronavirus exposure in fitness facilities implementing social distancing and other safety measures.

The study included 3,764 fitness club members, ages 18-64, with no known risk factors for severe COVID-19. Participants were randomized to have access to one of five reopened fitness centers in Oslo, Norway, or to have no access to a fitness center (control group). Participants submitted a COVID-19 test after two weeks.

Throughout the study, 81.8% of people used the gym at least once, and 38.5% at least six times. In the end, researchers found no cases of COVID-19 related to the fitness centres.

OUR ACTION PLAN

ON ARRIVAL

Please self screen by answering the Covid-19 screening questions on the door. If you answer “yes” to any of the questions then you will not be permitted to enter. Only two members may enter the lobby at a time. If you open the door and there are already two members inside please begin to form a line on the outside of the building. Once the participants in front of you are checked in you may enter the facility.

When you enter we will check you in on arrival. Please remove outdoor shoes and use the hand sanitizer on the desk before entering the gym area. Please note you need to wear a mask while moving around the gym. Once you’re at your lifting area, you may choose to remove your mask.

Please come to the gym with a full water bottle, mask, indoor shoes, and fully changed ready to go. You may also want to bring your own mat! We will have some you can borrow as well.

*Anyone displaying the following symptoms will be asked to leave the facility for immediate care:

  • Severe difficulty breathing
    (struggling for each breath, can only speak in single words not due to physical exertion)

  • Severe chest pain
    (constant tightness or crushing sensation)

  • Sneezing, congestion & sore throat

  • Fever

OPEN GYM

All participants are required to book in their workout time slots. Time slots are 60 minutes in length and are available from 5AM-9PM. Participants arriving without booking in advance will be turned away. We ask that all members clean up after themselves and follow social distancing measures. This includes a detailed cleaning of each piece of equipment you have used or touched with any part of your body. Please always spray the cloth first then wipe the rest of your equipment. Do not soak equipment as this will cause the equipment to rust and degrade rapidly. If there is no staff at the desk upon your arrival please follow the guidelines listed.

CLASSES

Each member will have their own box taped on the floor ensuring 3 meters of distancing from other members. On your arrival you will pick up the equipment needed for your class and return to your space. The equipment list will be written on the white board. While moving around the gym all members must wear a mask and maintain social distance. Once you return to your home base you can remove your mask if you choose to do so. The trainer is the only person permitted to enter your area, if you wish to not have the trainer enter to help coach and cue your body then please let them know in advance of class. We believe that hands on coaching is necessary to ensure the safety and effectiveness of each workout. After hands on adjustments the trainer will use hand sanitizer before moving to the next client. The instructor will wear a mask the entire class.

CLEAN FACILITY

Our facility will be fogged multiple times per day.

All class areas and equipment used will be fogged before and after every class. Members are mandated to also wipe down any equipment or area they touch after use.

The use of fans will be limited and only used if safety is at risk due to overheating

Masks must be worn while moving around the facility. You will not be permitted entry without a mask.

All equipment will be socially distanced. When this is not possible, plexiglass will be installed.

Dress warm in the winter months as we will have the garage door open as much as possible.

TRACKING

In the case that an infection has been traced or connected to our facility, all participants who were in contact with the gym within 24 hours of that time slot will be notified. Please ensure you are on our email list by subscribing below.

We don’t look exactly like we’re supposed to right now due to Covid-19 please forgive our appearance as we navigate opening a gym during a pandemic. Classes will be structured to best fit within Covid-19 guidelines while providing an effective workout. We hope we can have everything up to our dream in no time and continue to serve the #Joltfam at the highest quality with safety being a top priority.
